That doesn't necessarily mean anything important- you need to feed your family, send the kids to college, pay off your flashy new Jaguar, etc.

I think if you look at the transaction list you'll see that it almost all falls on a small number of dates each quarter. I'd infer that these are part of a plan of some kind, not an "insiders run to dump" kind of thing.YMMV.

This 'insider-selling' is the execution of prearranged trading plans. With that stock performance, one can hardly argue that they 'rip off stockholders'. If Bob Long made 9.3 million dollars last year, well, fine by me. These guys make 50 cents on the dollar, the stock has a P/E of ten, the business that will come in from Petrobras to develop their new fields alone is enough to keep this company going after their current backlog of 32 billion with 'B' is worked off. This is the best damn stock in the S&P 500.As J.R. Ewing would say: This is a can't-miss-operation!

I watched the stock for some time, was in and out. Now I have 75% of my funds invested in RIG. Pretty darn big bet. After the Bear Stearns desaster I realized that inflation would be the overriding theme. Mr. B would run out of ammo soon on lowering rates. But he opened Pandora's box with that unprecedent bailout case. Now you hear about bailout programms every week from Congress. Hard to keep up and fully out of control. The two parties are in a race who can spend money more quickly and inefficiently. That will fuel inflation indefinitely and keep the pressure on commodities like crazy. Heck, we had ~ 30 % a drop of the $ vs. the Euro while interest rates were going up to 5 1/4%. Now what has fundamentally improved since then? Nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Only the overnight rate is now at 2%.I feel my investment very well protected by the stupidity of the politicians of all walks. RIG will finally be looked at as the saviour of the world. Wait until they open the US outer shelf for drilling for lack of alternatives. The guys that have the drilling assets available will determine the prices, while the others are still building ships. And RIG the biggest animal. Dayrates must go up over time, since the shipyards increase their prices for new gear due to inflation and drilling rates are determined by marginal cost for new gear. I guess. Hard to loose money with this one.

I agree with cuban, if this is the top bear pitch... then i'll take my chances with the stock, and i'll take someones word (man of "faith") that these are in fact pre-arranged sales. Most companies pay the execs, based on stock performance, otherwise, there really isn't need to "work" for you money because you have "nothing to lose" by doing a lackluster job.RIG made 3B last year, and the year before was 1.3B. someone said the CEO is being paid 9.3 Million? He probably should be making more with an increase like that!
