What can I say? I just happen to like the beer.Okay, I will say more... in my personal opinion, Sam Adams is the best mass-produced beer in the United States. Other Fool's have commented that Sam Adams has gotten too big for its britches - that microbrews will beat good ol' Sam amongst the true beer afficianados, and the big behemoths have the advantages deeper pockets and marketing weight to throw around when it comes to playing with the 'big boys'.I disagree.I think there will always be a place for the best tasting mass-produced beer in the United States. Sure, the afficianados may well prefer certain microbrews, but when these afficianados are ordering a beer at a restaurant or hosting a bar-be-que, chances are they'll turn to good ol' Sam Adams - I know I will. The middle-aged 'Starbucks' crowd will keep turning to Sam Adams too, wanting something just a little 'better', more 'upscale' than what the big behemoths are offering.Other Fools have basically said that Sam Adams is going to find itself 'tweened' - caught between a rock and a hard place - between the microbrews and the giants.I think that they've actually found the 'sweet spot' instead.

Good job. I was very close to putting an Underperform on SAM, but I read your pitch and relented. By the way, I joined TMF sort of recently, but I have been trying to read "HG: How to Value a Stock" back from post #1. Same with "HG: Making Nikita a Master" (although I still think we should be trying to make her a doyenne; I've seen her posting recently on the Rule Breakers boards, by the way). I still have a long way to catch up on both those boards, but I wanted to let you know that I appreciate the role you've had in my education. Thank you.

All I can say is, thanks!!I know I have gotten a lot out of the Fool over the years, and learned a great deal from a great number of people, and I'm really glad that in some small way I've been able to pass at least a little of that along. And of course since this is a Boston Beer Co. thread I have to close by saying:Cheers!

I agree wholeheartedly. Yeah, there are better Microbrews out there, but you don't really hear Sam being referred to as a Micro anymore. Craft Brew is the term used more often nowadays. Keep in mind also that many of these micro competitors of Sam are still struggling to get their product into local stores where the market may be getting a little crowded. Sam, on the other hand, is growing nationally and will for quite some time. Craft Brews are also showing more growth than your average beer. While Sam is not able to yet pose a challenge to Anheuser or SabMiller, they are really the only craft brew that can come close competing and will, in my opinion, further continue to open up the beer market to pave way for the growth of other craft breweries. SAM is a sure bet both short and long term.

Your comment about the "sweet spot" is right on. As far as craft beers go, SAM is the 800lb. gorilla. They've positioned themselves as a sort of mainstream alternative to mainstream beer. An in between price point and a truly good selection of fine beers sets them apart.
