Let me preface by saying that this business is really confusing.

I was also persuaded by the VIC write-up, which is worth the read. And further, I would add that it strikes me as fairly clear that Ergen has not spun-off SATS with the intention that it would be a repository of crap. I am pretty sure that SATS contains, to Ergen's mind anyway, the crown jewels of the previously consolidated company.

What's hard for me to understand is what role technology plays here. Personally, I have been captivated by the SlingMedia technology for a while. I had previously assumed that they would have been purchased by Apple. However, I do not know if theirs is the kind of technology that can be endlessly cloned like youtube's is or not. What is the difference between the two examples if that is not the case? In principle, the idea seems simple enough, and there obviously quite a few competitors in the space already. Perhaps it's all about the compression which relates to picture quality??

So I am only going to give this a three-quarter thumbs up.
