The Charles Schwab Corporation (CSC) is a financial holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the Company engages in securities brokerage, banking and related financial services. CSC provides financial services to individuals and institutional clients through three segments: 1. Schwab Investor Services2. Schwab Institutional3. Schwab Corporate and Retirement Services. The Schwab Investor Services segment includes the Company’s retail brokerage and banking operations. The Schwab Institutional segment provides custodial, trading and support services to independent investment advisors (IAs). The Schwab Corporate and Retirement Services segment provides retirement plan services for employers and employees, as well as support services for plan administrators. As of December 31, 2007, the Company had seven million active brokerage accounts, 1.2 million corporate retirement plan participants and 262,000 banking accounts. On March 31, 2007, the Company acquired The 401(k) Company.
