Nuclear power, or as our esteemed president would say "Nukuler Power" currently represents 20% of all energy in the USA. In total the USA has 104 nuclear reactors, most of which were built in the late 60's and early 70's. These nuclear reactors are approaching the end of their life cycle. They can be upgraded and extended for a couple more years, but after that they will either be replaced or shut down. The cost to replace those reactors is 400 Billion dollars, (4billion/reactor).Second reason to like Shaw is Global Warming. All three candidates for president are entertaining the idea of a carbon tax. That means that the nuclear reactors will not be replaced by new coal fired plants, and I don't believe that solar, or wind will be able to compensate. On top of it all demand for energy in the USA is constantly climbing. Nuclear is the big money maker for Shaw, but it is not all they do. Shaw is also involved in other businesses most notably: oil refinery construction, coal power plants, and maintenance of 40% of current nuclear fleet. I think Shaw is going to be a big winner, especially if McCain wins the nomination.disclaimer: I own stock in Shaw.

Interesting. Basically, we don't even have to build new plants for Shaw to be a big winner. Just replacing the reactors as they come off line will be a 400 billion dollar business.

Interesting post barring the irrevelant dig at the President that adds nothing to the thesis.Remember that Shaw is not the only builder.Constellation Energy is using Bechtel Corportation (privately held, propbably best run construction firm in the world).Westinghouse is still there (owned by Toshiba).Don't forget strong negative lobbying effects from the environmentalists.

That is all true. But, I feel Shaw is best leveraged to the domestic nuclear industry. Toshiba is not, neither is GE. Both do much more than build power plants.
