Silver is an inflation play. I like it as a defense against a potentially weak american dollar. Why will the american be weak? Let me list the reasons: trade deficit, medicare woes, pension woes, inverted yield-curve, wars in foreign nations and bread and circuses for the masses. All of these will tempt the Fed to play loose with its money. Maybe it will... maybe it won't. Kudos if it resists the temptation, but I doubt it. However, even if it *does* resist the temptation to flood the world in liquidity, silver is used in multiple industries.
