record sales and profits this quarter, nice pipeline, looks like a promising takeover target, what more could you ask for in a speculative bio tech

I haven't seen such "drama" or Walt Disney like fairy tale in a stock. Here are some points to consider:

1) Sept. 6, 2002: 1:25 Reverse Stock Split - Why important now? Once bitten twice shy.

2) Leucovorin is a generic, and Fusilev is available and sold only because of supply and manufacturing problems for the generic. Even if the generic manufacturer, Teva, never comes back to the market, any market that Fusilev makes will be devoured by another generic co.

3) Pipeline: Zevalin??? Are we still talking about that? I seem to remember CTIC with a drug called Zevalin. Their other stuff, Apaziquone and Belinostat, has anyone evaluated the market opportunity with respect to these drugs? And how many years away are these drugs in Phase 3 and Phase 2 respectively? If you say 1 - 2 years, you're being naive with respect to the current regulatory climate. However, the expenditure for drugs in late stage clinical trials are well known and documented.

4) Do we really think Teva will turn into SPPI's Fairy God Mother? Seriously now folks, Teva is the cause of the supply crunch for generic leucovorin. If Teva bought SPPI, I would expect an investigation of both Teva and SPPI.

The trend has always been that the FDA investigates, the FDA closes the plant, and the company fixes the problem and resumes manufacturing. We're in interesting times when companies allow the FDA to come in and shut down plants that stay shuttered, see JNJ and their plant in PA. If you're a conspiracy theorist, there's more truth in this than what our gov't does. Companies need an excuse to layoff union employees. A failed FDA inspection is just that. Manufacturing to resume in China, where we have no idea of the quality of raw materials, and where the FDA has already admitted it can't inspect the sites. And that's why drugs should not be imported from China. I apologize for the tangent.

The most important point is number 2, and how many generic manufacturers would be ready to go and ramp up minus Teva.

Friday was a case of sell on news, or sell before the news breaks.
