Following Valuemoney. Stewart Information Services Corp is a highly solvent title company selling for 0.49 times book value, which is 1.0 times tangible book value. The company lost money in 2009 and 2008 but analysts expect a small profit for 2010. An insider named Edgar Allen Smith is consistently buying shares. Although I am aware that Steward Information Services has a tough road to walk in the current economic climate, I am excited by the opportunity to get into the lucrative title insurance industry at such a low price. Whenever real estate firms up (which might be a long time) this company's price will double.

I've been in Stewart Info since early 08, good solid company in a strapped sector, great buy at current prices. They cut the dividend in 2008, but still paid an annual dividend in 2009. They have a DRIP with direct initial purchase, minimum $50, minimum optional cash purchase of $25, they do have a $15 enrollment fee and a $2 transaction fee on monthly OCP so the fees are high on the minimums but reasonable on higher investments. Still beats brokers prices and dollar cost averaging is almost always the way to go IMO.
Stewart appears to be successfully down sizing to cope with the current real estate market and improving revenues albiet slowly, they have also successfully reissued long debt. They should recover nicely when the real estate market does. Not a company for the impatient.

I am pretty confident it will triple. Keep this pick for 5 years and see. I see earnings going back north of 3 dollars a share. Premiums up. And a housing market back on a roll. Add in higher market multiples and u have yourself a 35 dollar stock.

Valuemoney,

I am planning to add this to my real money portfolio soon - and I usually hold my real money positions for at least a year.

Mrindependent hope you caught a peice of that 25% move on your real money. Earnings came out 2/18 and they blew them away. Although I could care less about 1 quarter of earnings.

I know I said I feel it will be a triple in next five years and you said u hold your position for at least one year. My position will end at $19.35 if it gets there within 6 months. Risk reward (in terms of my liking) will not be there anymore. And I know I will be able to find a high quality equity that I can buy and hold forever if I wish. You can do whatever u'd like but that is my thoughts on this investment. My investments are very concentrated though and I have never owned more than 10 stocks at one time. I want to be 100% confident on my investment. WFC is currently my largest holding by far just over half of my all my investments. Before 2009 it was only about 5%.
