Statoil is one of the most experienced and successful seekers for new oil deposits at sea. Its being Norwegian doesn't hurt it either; those folks have a reputation for hard work, ingenuity, and good business sense.

A politically stable oil source with low risk of disruption. Plus, the primary trend on oil is clearly up. Further, Statoil is undervalued based on its status as largely state-owned.

As the polar ice caps melt down, guess who's got a direct route over the top of the world to China? It's happening. Really. The race for arctic dominance is on and besides being well positioned, Statoil's ridiculously cheap.

Having held this 1000 sharesstock for about 2 years and nearly lost money on it, I think that the stock markets in the U.S. highly speculative as they are, are not receptive to European government owned companies. The Norwegioans are too damn hones...

This company will supply Britian with it's request for it's demand for gas, for the next 10 years or more. The Ormen Lange Project took 10 years and 50 countries. You don't start up something like this and let it fail.

I am not sure on the timing or catalyst that will send Oil and gas higher and higher. I do feel that it will happen because of limited supply, growing demand and political turmoil in many regions of production.

International oil and oil will become scare with corresponding upward price trend. It has been beaten down recently and current price is probably near a short term low.
