Most U.S. police departments went to off-shore manufacturers when no U.S. manufacturers of polymer framed pistols. S&W finally came out with some that have been well-received, winning most contracts they bid on. Firearms have a long replacement cycle, especially during budget cuts. More and more police will be putting contracts out to bid out of necessity. The end of the recession would be a bonus -- and the big prize is military contracts.
