Norton, Symantec's flagship, was once the best AV software out there, and still carries a strong brand-name recognition. But the fact is, it is no longer the highest rated anywhere and is now outperformed by products that are half of its price or less. I have moved away from Norton because my system boots faster and runs better with equally effective software that costs half as much to buy and to renew; I believe others will do the same. Long - term, once Windows has built-in AV software as promised, the competition will be for the licensing rights with Microsoft, not the consumer market, and price and performance will count more than brand name.
