This crappy company laid one of my friends off. He was making 80 grand a year. He was replaced by a guy in India probably making half of that. American Thieves and Thugs are at it again doing what they do best. These multinational corporations don't care. Cheapest labor, cheapest everything in exchange for slave labor. T you've done it again. Get ready for Q1 numbers you swine. Unioin needs to get the hell out of Detroit and move to China.

Sounds like they cut some costs. Shouldn't that warrant a green thumb?

...and monkeys might fly out of my butt. Actually, no telecommunications in general may get a big wake up call to VOIP. Ever heard Magic Jack? It's a $40/yr phone... I believe Google may also be stealing T's market share eventually with what they're doing. Leaving T to be a predominantly cell phone company. U-verse is still pretty expensive. I'm long on the bear on this one.

Now that's entertainment. I can picture the monkeys flying. Thanks for that vision.I was laid off from IBM a few years back because my job was outsourced to India. Yes, I was pissed off. Did I sell my IBM stock? Hell no! T is probably the most reliable dividend payer out there and the dividend is sustainable. What more needs to be discussed. Buy it now while it's a bargain or forever shoot monkeys out whatever orifice you choose.

Hey back in 1992 I read a book on buying stocks without a broker. T was one of those so I plunked down my $300.00 and got in to the drip program. I have never invested another cent of my own capital in T, but I do own over 150 shares because of steady dividends and stock splits. Not bad for $300.00. sorry about your friend, but keep the T and loan him some green.

Also look at my FDX and CHE posts. Alot of "honesty" there too. Anyway, going back to the fundamentals of T. You guys done well with your fundamental picking of T back in the day, but I really do believe their days are numbered as being a superpower. After my cell contract with T ends, I'm probably going to switch to US Cellular because their rates and services have the best "bang for the buck" and my bill might actually divide in half. When you look at companies like T several things worry me: 1. Ultra-cheap competition i.e. the MagicJack (this is not a scam they sell this at Best Buy) 2. The possible evolution of Google's silent "free" Grand Central telephone number service 3. possibilities behind the future of the new "smart grid" infrastructure (integrating internet speeds of 100Mbps or more into electricity wiring - 50x speeds of DSL) T's future doesn't look as cozy as one might think. It's only bright spot for growth might be U-verse. U-verse's wireless technologies are cool, but so far the whole thing looks like a typical overpriced media box. Time will tell though.

usul - Congrats on the T. What else did that book recommend? I could use a few like that in my portfolio - seriously!

LOL well I can see your point of view,, when you make it so personal,,but I think ATT will continue to do REALLY well because all the very points you make,, they are outsourcing to other countries,, shame on them
but that is how these big companies make money. I have a friend who works for Verizon which appears to be doing really well, especially in Northern Virgnia,, because they dominate the service around here, everyone stil has a Verizon home phone.. especially the boomers, and no matter what level of service,, the cheapest to the highest extras,, the money still continues to flow in,, however my friend told me that Verizon is selling off whole "production sites" in other states and consolidating a whole of business.. in the U.S .. does that mean .
and this is intellectual exercise ,, and I would like some input from guys who know about this area
Does that mean Verizon will make a ton of money? or does that mean they are going down the tubes?
and publicly they are boasting and installing FIOS and those,, whatever they are underground .. wires (I am in life sciences used to be,, so I don't know what they are,,I need to take wiring/FIOS for dummies.. but back to the point,, and he told me they training huge groups of guys in copper .. wiring here in the US.. what does that mean? for real ,, I know most of you are guys.. that implies some kind of major change in communication
training in copper wires for Verizon,, well if I don't hear back,, maybe I will go and find it on the interenet..
but that is interesting.... anyway, done for now, I need to actually get to work.. sigh

That might be one of the least thoughtful pitches I've ever read on caps.

@Itsya, I know what you mean about people not discontinuing their phone service regardless of pricing structures and everything, but the truth of the matter is they're selling old technology at a premium. Competitors are going to chew them up and even their B2B edge is diminishing. Unless they can maintain their stranglehold... which they have done well so far. It really seems like the only thing they are good at is acquisitions. Their lack of working capital and our credit crunch looks to be a problem there as well.

A smart move on their part. Many companies are outsourcing to control costs. That is what makes a company successful, not going on with unneccessary expense.

I hate to give away a really keen stock-selection tool.

There used to be (or still is?) a Scot Adams' set of 4 indices. Dilbert, Dogbert, Catbert, and Ratbert's picks.
If I recall correctly, this article puts AT&T on the Catbert's list. Possibly Mr. Manager Dogbert's too!

They are working on outlawing companies that "pirate" spectrums like MagicJack right now. And U-verse is way cheaper than most competitors' So that's one less worry for you. For the quality of product, Uverse is like Honda so it is not going to be as cheap as a KIA but it is cheaper than comparable competition. Tech-wise, T is getting the same speeds (unnoticeably closer) from fiber to node as VZ gets from fiber-to-home. That's why U-verse killed FIOS and any other competition last year. Oh, ant 1 million VOIP custs added for Uverse in 1 year. That's impressive, no? GOOG cannot grow to telco status, because of their (rightful) regulation fears. So no worries there either. Just for the solid dividends, I think you can go thumbs up on this one now.
