Yesterday the activist hedge fund Relational Investors announced that it has established a 6.4% stake in Timken (TKR). Relational is pushing Timken to spin-off its steel business. Deej
This spin off will end up being disastrous for Canton, Timken, it's employees and suppliers. These money runners have no sense of how important TKR is to our community. They will cut , slice & dice the steel business and it will end up as part of Republic, Nucor or Mac. A vote for a spin off is a vote for a quick buck, split up the pensions, buy the people an annuity, and sell off the assets. I hope the Timken family can take it private, or the board tells them no way. They've been here 100 years, it's nothing but pure greed at work, with the humans as an after thought, like cattle.
