I'm not sure I have an opinion on this one yet, but as an fyi, here is a little article about why the $50 MM was important. http://seekingalpha.com/article/81231-talbots-management-finally-puts-words-into-action?source=yahoo

TDRH,I usually snoop around for investment idea on caps, so logically the best places to look are the senior, more experienced high ranking players. I've noticed it appears I'm not the only one as i see and increasing amount the top player pics on other players pics with pitches and remarks of "everyday" and "statgeek leech"... I must admit I participate as well. It's a shame you seem to get the frequent raw end of the deal with "poor timing" as shown in this example. I must ask, do you "try to time it?" or do you just call your shots as them meet your criteria? Personally, as someone trying to offer up help or advice, not as a critic, when i make a call in my mind I always try to "feel out the market" buy looking at the charts and seeing if i can spot a good high point or low point. I guess my theroy is it was low (or high) once, and can be low (or high) twice. If my patients wears thin i'll pull the trigger at a price that i still feel is suitable, not because i feel i could miss out.BTW, no one could have seen the huge drop and subsequent rally on TLB, had this been with real money a trailing stop is always your friend.

Paradox, I think we are all "guilty" of borrowing from each other. I used to follow the leaders quite a bit more, but lately most of them are riding commodity waves and generally my gut says it is already too late. One of my favorites is GTRinvestor, he has some of the best timing I have seen. In some cases I write to him before I consider buying a stock. There are many others that are extremely talented. As for me it is mostly luck and timing. Actually I have been relatively pleased with my timing, but if I could avoid the tar baby's like TLB, PIR & Overstock I would do much better. I look at the general outlook for the particular industry that has experienced a sell off or run-up and then try and find the strongest/weakest companies in the group with a price in mind where I will buy in/short. Sometimes it takes a while for the market to recognize the value/trash though. Stop losses are key, wish I had put one in place for BAC. Boa Sorte!James

Thanks for the advice, its good and useful to know.AND I know what your saying with the commodity wave, it just like watching that market pass you by... tempting but dangerous, a day late and a dollar short...

8-7-08 No good reason for this one to be flying so high. The Talbots Inc. said Thursday that same-store sales fell 12 percent in the second quarter, hurt by a weak customer response to end-of-season clearance events.Same-store sales for the three months ended Aug. 2 fell 11.7 percent at Talbots and 13.2 percent at J. Jill.
