The US auto industry has its problems but foreign auto manufacturers are facing revived domestic competition. This is only partly because of improvements at F, GM, etc.. It is mostly because of the weak dollar. Interest rate cuts might help sustain auto sales in the slowing economy for a period of time but people are going to slow down big ticket purchases. Rising commodities make this recommendation even easier to swallow. Toyota is a great company but its not going to be a great stock in the next 12 months.

Spare a thought for Toyota. It loses $350m in revenues for every one yen move. That is an $8.75bn hit since June. Tokyo's Nikkei index is crumbling.
