Shady bastards. I hate this company. I hate it a lot. They remind me of the truck dealerships around here. Every month "is truck month! Come in for deals!" With TOL, every month is "the market bottom." Every single month. After five years of an unprecedented bull run that included the invention of new financial instruments to inflate the bubble even higher, TOL called a "market bottom" one month into the recession. Ridiculous. You can lie to auditors but don't sit there and repeatedly lie to potential investors who don't know what they are getting into. Seriously, what's the purpose? You already have your $30 million salary. Just take that and be happy. You can't artificially inflate your stock price for five years anyway. The stock will catch up to the business. The best you can do is sucker in a new batch of innocent people in each time you lie. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Excellent post. The brothers are despicable. It is amazing that Bob Toll has gotten away with saying the things he has in an attempt to lure in ignorant investors. Back in August he said "the next big story for the housing market is going to be pent up demand." That sure sounds like the feeling of someone who along with his brother Bruce sold shares as fast as possible and continues to do so. I have lost track of how many times he has called bottom. I could go on and on about this company. They can pretty much say whatever they want with no accountability. There is a class action lawsuit in the works but I don't expect anything to come of it.

My family has had first hand dealings with this company in my area. Here's a good story for you:Right across the street from my house was a place we used to go for fresh fruit called Northbrook Orchards. This orchard was bought out by Toll Brothers, who were warned that there was 6 inches of arsenic in the soil from crop treatment. Toll Brothers was told by the township not to build there without removing that top layer of soil for the safety and health of the future residents. Well, it would have cost them too much money, so they hired some lawyers, went overhead and scammed approval from the state, overriding the township's veto. Since then, a huge development was built on this soil, and the people who are buying the houses for 1.1 million dollars have no idea what they got themselves and their kids into. That's one of many stories I can share with you guys - This kind of behavior is not uncommon for Toll Brothers. Shadyness comes from all angles here like you guys say.

Any guess whose investors will be left holding the bag when all the cancer ridden families on one of their little toxic wonderlands finally win a class action suit? Another fine reason to red thumb these dirtbags.

(TOL) Wow, great string guys. I was really contemplating putting a thumbs up on this one due to the amount of write-downs they have taken up to this point; however, w/ these types of potential lawsuits out there, I'm not sure its worth the risk. I think I'll sit this round out for now.Fool On
