I am convinced Electric Vehicles will eventually dominate the car market in the long term. Technologies will improve (look at the personal computer from 1987 vs 2010 for example). Tesla Motors has this spark of excitement, that I don't get from GM and their Volt (although the Volt may do just fine). With the recent partnership with Toyota, and Toyota's background with the Prius, I think Tesla will eventually end up with an electric car that most of us can afford. By that, I mean a car under $30k. Right now, Tesla and Chevy are way too expensive for me to consider. But with evolution and a growth in popularity, the Tesla company should be able to deliver a decent priced vehicle. Just the thought of eventually getting away from Arab oil, is enough to keep my interest in this company (and others) for years to come. It's time for America to reign-in its dependance on rogue, hostile oil countries and turn to ourselves for the answers for our future growth.
