EV Tech has serious technical problems. With batteries costing 1/3 of the total cost of the car and the technology at an impasse I don't see TSLA going too far. The comany doesn't have a record at all, and it is surviving on govt money from a govt that is going bankrupt. Its a matter of time before this pipe dream comes crashing taking unsuspecting investors with it.
Tesla is basically a startup and a lot of money was being spent on engineering and tooling.
Now that they are building 200 cars per week, they are cash flow positive and are not going bankrupt.
Russelllee, the build rate for last two weeks was at around 423 cars. That based on calculations of customer's VINs when their cars leaving factory entering delivery stage at the middle of December and at the end of it.
Second, Goldman Sachs revenue estimates for 2013 for Tesla is over 2 billion dollars. I think that is very conservative estimate. With 25% gross margins target Tesla should get around 500 millions to spend in 2013 alone.
And they would need that money to expand S production(investing in tooling and supply chain). And getting ready for X production. Reason for further expansion of S production rate - the rate of reservations for S is still well over 400 cars a week, and seems to be growing. So Tesla would have to invest to get even more money back:)
Elon Musk is a fighter and America loves a fighter maybe some of us are getting soft I truly believe that the founders of this motley fool were fighter like musk and would have invested with him after all he is becoming famous for his tenacity some of the gas engine people just cannot see past the fumes where would we be if we listened to these hazy opinions based on opinion and not on instinct and facts the dirty gas engine has seen it's hay day and it was in the 70's for now the truth is that companies like Volkswagen are the best companies selling cars now today as we speak and look at the cars they sell small clean economy cars the electric car is not a work of art but a working art form the writer from the times was paid by the oil CEO's to fight musk the one car that is truly a threat to the oil use in America Each car off of the assembly line is putting us into a new world of no gas reliance Its funny because he is allot like Ford He also fought for his cars and almost killed himself working to repair the send backs as musk did.Like apple it is a scary investment when looking into the future as musk realizes that small cars are what's wanted he'll get more range out of a small sedan plus lower price this will be his model T a car that each American family can own Fords words
