Overbought, market cap higher than mazda. This company is impressive, and might change the world. Musk has done an incredible job and no doubt he is a visionary. But people tend to exaggerate the impact of technology (here, electric cars) in the short term. The real large-scale profitability for electric cars might be 10-20 years away, and by this time, there should be a lot of competition. That said, I hope Tesla will succeed, I would just not invest in it Today at this price.

TSLA another corvair, pinto, vega, close to an edsel sounds more like it. lifestyle of the rich, you won't be for long check the price of a battery, I could buy a nice vette, life span, when my cell battery goes dead I throw it out the window, future museum piece, another screwup but some made millions because people don't remember, same thing with wind, solar, tried that in the 70's, again the battery thing with price, another great big ZERO, but in another 30-40 years we'll do it again new generation and the rich of today then there grand children will be rich again and it goes on. remember the past before you see the future

"the earnings will keep being impressive"

Not sure what company you're talking about because Tesla has negative earnings. People will not keep being impressed by a .05 profit in the second quarter using non-GAAP accounting when the company still has -2.00 in earnings for the year. The fact is that TSLA will crash, it's just a matter of time. Just look at the history of companies like Taser or First Solar to see very similar stories to TSLA.

Just another example of how wrong people can be. Sell it a 128? well that would not have been a good move. Although at 190 I would not buy it. One of the responders comparing the Tesla Model S to a pinto, vega, etc... is just sheer lunacy, no basis in fact or extrapolation of fact, just another example of how democratization of opinion is a double edged sword where you can get flights of tremendous insight or descents into complete stupidity. I leave it to you to decide which one this is, but I think the evidence is clear.

My 2 cents on why you should own a piece of Tesla: I am a growth investor focused on innovative companies that are geared towards the future. My philosophy is that if the product is great and the company is well managed the metrics of the stock will eventually make some sense. Tesla is the current poster-child for a cutting edge company poised for future growth, with a very scary valuation. Although I too think the valuation of TSLA is crazy, I will not completely sell the stock until the company grows out of the current growth phase.

I have scaled back my own position to 10% of my portfolio and put the profits into my other current holdings: AAPL, BA, SUBX, GOOG, SCTY, GLD and SPY. This methodology has served me well in the past and has allowed me to profit from companies like Iomega, Sandisk, Seagate, Intel, Apple, Baidu, Crocs, First Solar, Cree, Game Stop and Imax, to name a few. (other than AAPL, I am out of all of these companies).

All Tesla naysayers should watch this 5 minute video from Wired magazine on how Tesla's popular Model S cars are manufactured. No other company in the world has the same technology and sophistication in building cars of this caliber and quality. If interested, the video can be watched at this link:
