Tata is a quality name in India - the top industrial company. Tata Motors is a long term bet on the Indian economy and growth of the middle class. TTM also is very ambitious, and wants to become dominant in emerging markets, with plans to build a $2.5k car. Success in creating a profitable low cost car could give them a lock in a lot of emerging markets in Asia, Eastern Europe, and other markets. This is a company with a lot of promise, trading right now at the bottom of its range.

TMFsteppnwulf,

I've read many pitches about TTM and I'm convinced that Tata motors is a threat to Suzuki of India.

Some of the pitches I've read and I'm convinced is that Tata motors is a world player (Is India a memeber of the WTO?)

Finally, Tata motors is a strong candidate in bidding for Ford's prestigious brands Jaguar and Rover (Will we ever see Jaguars again in North American roads?)..

P.S. I've previously also replied to Gonuke (the bear side of TTM)

Comparing a $6000 Alto to a $2500 Nano? Does that make any sense to you? Should rather compare the Nano to a whole lot of 2-wheelers -- the Nano finally fills in the budget gap b/w a motorbike & a car, and that's exactly the market Tata is targeting. You seem to have posted this reply to a whole lot of thumbs-up pitches -- should've done your research first...

Hello VasilGrozny,

I'm sure there are Indian consumers who are willing to pay the extra $3500 for a proven vehicle the Alto than risk saving that $3500 for a relatively new vehicle the Nano. We have to factor in the maintenace cost, wear and tear on parts, the time frame of the vehicle usefulness (the number of years when the vehicle is no longer worth repairing to be road worthy), and etc. Only time can tell about the reliability of the Nano. So all in all in the end that $2500 could cost more than $6000 which is a bad investment (when the Nano is in the service shop more often than what it was intended to do; make the owner mobile).

Hello VasilGrozny,

NEWS UPDATE!!!

Thanks to Tata Inc., GM and Toyota is now thinking of developing there own ultra-cheap car to maintain it's market share in emerging markets.

Who knows maybe Maruti will follow suit with a entry level Maruti with less features/ perfomance/ and limiting color choices to one. If Maruti let's me price and name the entry level car, I will price it at $2499.99 and name it Maruti-Suzuki Alto GT (Green Thumb). I believe David Suzuki (Canadian Enviromentalist) would give it two thumbs up.
