VLO is misunderstood - it is not in the business of producing oil; it is in the business of refining crude.

What really sold me on them though is that they have found an inexpensive way to refine hard crude - essentially creating a niche for them ...

A solid company with sound management, this stock should move upward in the near future. The stock has stagnated for the last few months, but is poised for a breakout now that the winter conversion of the fuel has already occurred.

Refines and sells gas. You've seen there stations. Trades at a low for the year with the slump of oil prices from six months ago. Regardless, long term they refine crude to make gas - and that capability is approaching the limits in several areas....
