Without VeriSign there is no Internet.
That's like saying "Without Microsoft, there are no business-friendly operating systems." Not immediately, but that doesn't mean there aren't companies who couldn't replicate the feat if Microsoft was ever gone. Given a recent rash of accidentally-signed and, in some cases, purposefully badly signed certificates, there is a call within the IT community to re-think how we do large-scale trust. VeriSign looks great now, but watch out for changes in Internet infrastructure. Remember, the Flame virus propagated because the US Government beat a company just like VeriSign.
