After Alvin Tofler's idea in his "third wave" book.First wave was agro and it created U$S:12000 per year per person.Second wave was industry and it created U$S:80000 per year per person.Third wave was knoledge and it created U$S:300000 per year per person. The problem is that USA, Europe and Japan have most of its workers in the third wave, while the rest of the world still have a lot of its population in the first and second wave, and are moving to the third. This is why the reat of the world will growth faster than the so called "first world", and VWO tracks greatly the rest of the world.I'm willing to bet all my assets that from know to 20 years, if we look back VWO would have beat S&P500 by a very wide margin. At least is my view of the world rigth now...My two cents.

Guess what! THE fourth wave is coming soon to a reality near you. (Was not in Toflers "third wave" book)Fourth wave will generate a near infinite amount of $$$ per person. Nano technology, genetic manipulation, much longer healthy life, space based energy and material raw resources, virtual reality wealth, desktop manufacturing, effective household robot labor, intelligent computers harvesting rich information databases and "synergizing" the data to find applicable improvements at a rate of about 1,000,000 times more effectively than people. This is all coming sometime in the next 25 years or so .....Hang on to your hats! Relative wealth of the third world is going to look like a few peanuts compared to the developed world and the S&P500.SesameNOW!PS - It is still important to diversify your investments and have no more than 10% in any one company and no more than 30% in any industry/sector/area.

Well... I must agree with your idea. Although robots and "synergizing" doesn't seems very real to me (I've specialized in artificial intelligence), the genetic manipulation is looking really promising now. Nevertheless except first world countries find a way to patent everything and keep the rest of the world from this knowledge I don't see how they can avoid information leak. After all, in 1984 in Argentina al scientific papers we had at university were more than two years old. Nowadays with the WWW (which was created exactly to ease knowledge transfer) we can get the same info at the same time that every other country. Patents with a big ammo amount baking them seems to be the only way the first world can get away with a faster GDP growth. I really thanks your comment though. I will give it a big though, perhaps after all "market portfolio" is still the best investment...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_portfolio_theory Perhaps moving my money from VWO to ACWI is a wise idea. I'll though about it. Regards!
