This company is too arrogant for its own good. It consistently puts its business ahead of the communities it is engaged in. This results in constant legal battles and extraneous testing. All of this could be avoided if the company would talk to leaders of the areas it tries to institute dumps in. Together they could develop a plan of monitoring and environmental well being suitable to both parties. This is a crucial component of waste management this company neglects day in day out. Legal battles, poor management (from a PR perspective), and the lack of morals will ultimately doom this company.

All that is well and good but there is no way around it...there are no communities around that want dumps in or near them. Everyone thinks that they have the answer. There are many good and stable geological locations for dumps that should be used. But no community or eco-group wants to see it happen. So they fight in court. So this company should pay for sealed containment until some wonder agreement is reached in which they have to pay far too much and become non-competitive while losing their ability to afford the programs for the needed fuel programs that they have instituted? This is unrealistic and a poorly thought out idealism. Is everyone who disagrees with you arrogant?

jfosu is expressing his concerns about a company and what he feels it should do--It's his opinion and his right, and for us it provides a strong counterpoint to the positive arguments for WM. Why ask him "Is everyone who disagrees with you arrogant"? It's that lack of logic that makes it difficult for me to take the stronger arguments above seriously and contributes nothing to others' understanding of whether WM is a good investment, which is what this is all about. Long live idealism, I say.

Idealism is good as far as it goes. However, realism is closer to what actually happens while idealism is what we wish would happen. The use of the term arrogant in the original post is a judgement call rather than a proven fact. This may be what was being pointed out. If you think the question voids the logic in the comment then it should also void to some degree the opinions of the first post.

Law suits are not good for PR and this is a valid point to consider. They seem to be nearly unavoidable in this field because of the not-in-my-backyard attitude, however. Things like landfills can be managed without longterm environmental problems. In fact some of the gas collection systems in old closed landfills could be considered a benefit to society as well as a revenue source for Waste Management.
