Perhaps the only industry other than Waste Management that is going to be around forever is the Mortuary business. Of the two, waste management is the livelier choice. It is WMI for me.

Trash baby. Everybody needs their trash picked up. It doesn't matter what the economy does. WMI is also "waste to energy" company...uses some hybrid trucks....and is selling off routes that aren't as profitable as they would like.

Not sexy but this is a long term consideration - a well run company that is coming off a 52 week low and buying back stock plus a decent yield. Seems like a lock to beat the market because trash doesn't care about recessions or geopolitical events

Waste Management should benefit greatly from the recent drop in oil and gasoline prices. The company generates significant free cash which allows it to pay a sizeable and growing dividend to its shareholders. Furthermore, they operate in a recessio...

growth forecasts are always so subjective but one thing I will never doubt is people will always produce more trash.

Strong profit margins and more 'green' initiatives all mean go to me.

(they should buy some of oshkosh's hybrid refuse trucks...)

The more people live on the earth the more waste they will generate. There is no alternative than processing waste. In fact waste management industry will grow for unspecified period of time, maybe forever.
