huge moat around the business, good price to book ratio and decent return on equity... do you not think money parked here will compound nicely over the next 40+ years? this company should be around long after any of us, our kids, our grandkids, their kids, etc etc etc...

I agree. When the economy is bad, people shop Wal-Mart. When the economy is good, people shop at Target and higher end stores. Wal-Mart is great for the economy and will remain so. Now that they plan to lower their sites, as far as opening new stores, they should be more focused on making their current stores more profitable.

Gotta disagree. Yes, lots of people shop Walmart. And lots actively AVOID Walmart. Poor quality is my main gripe. Plus indifferent (and unhelpful) employees. KMart was once a huge gorilla. No more. Walmart will go the same way if they don't make some major changes.

I shop at Costco almost exclusively now (except for grocery stores, of course). Their quality is vastly superior, and their prices are as low or lower than Walmart. The last time I went into a Walmart I was reminded of why I hate them...two different employees directed me (without actually showing me) and neither was correct. And neither cared. Never again.
