I'm going to digress a bit from fundamental analysis here; no doubt ExxonMobil is immensely profitable, and there skill at sucking oil out of the ground is second to none. However, I think XOM's relentless and shameless denial of climate change will eventually come back to bite them in a big way. I don't believe for a second that a company whose CEO denies meetings with some of his largest owners, which bankrolls the yammering of global warming "skeptics," and is just generally inclined to deny reality whenever it's convenient, will succeed over the long run. I don't think I'm exaggerating a bit when I call Exxon's record on this all-encompassing issue evidence of crimes against humanity on a massive scale. They will pay dearly for their short-sightedness, mendacity, and self-serving greed; oh how they will ever pay. As with incompetent ideologues in the auto industry such as Bob Lutz, who have for years balked at the evidence and refused to innovate - thereby running GM, a once-great American company, directly into the ground - there's an especially hot place in hell for the likes of Rex Tillerson and his cronies. It might not be in the next month or the next year, but their time will come.
