I am anticipating short and long term worldwide growth in oil & gas consumption. This will put upward pressure on oil & gas price. At the moment, XOM has a better portfolio of upstream oil & gas opportunities compared to CVX, RDS.A, COP and BP. And will be bringing on new production soon on several major projects including Papau New Guinea (gas) and Canadian oil sands/tar sands. Also, its downstream performance in terms of profitability, safety, reliability, is exceeding its competition. I also sense oncoming weakness it XOM's competition, primarily CVX, due to delays and cost overruns on major upstream projects including Gorgon/Janz and Jack-St. Malo.
