Playing an expected earnings bounce. This is an active recommendation of mine and a holding. It is a stock the market has seemingly left for dead at this point. So in advance of earnings this week, I'm largely guessing (that's what "earnings bounce plays" are) that ZIP will actually finally rise for once post-earnings. We shall see.
This is one I overdid chasing the price down to the point of it being an I'll advised initial allocation. Most often when I've done that in the past it's worked for me, but not with ZIP. Playing a real long patient game now and would love for your bounce call to be a winner, David;)

JSergeant inspired me at Space camp with his spreadsheet work. Just over a year ago long after starting at HG and picking up various newsletters at the Fool over the years I became convinced of your track record and RuleBreaking ways and finally took the plunge by completely overhauling my registered portfolios. I knew doing it rather suddenly and drastically that I'd quite probably experience some short term pain and so I have, particularly as I picked a tough year for Rule breakers.
You know I'm a gamer and between John and SpaceCamp I couldn't resist setting up a competition of my own. My Breakers are down and thankfully my Stalwarts have offset the pain nicely. The Breakers represent all smaller/innovators and the like and the sheet is representative of the various odd ways I like to think of my portfolio, including cost cutting with the use of occasional trading positions. You'll notice the overzealous ZIP play which didn't seem as bad until I was inspired by John to learn how to set up such a sheet and the reality really jumped out at me. I'd still bet on my Breakers long term. I just love what can be done now with these spreadsheets and I love a good competition;)
I thought you may find the battle between my two personal teams interesting.

Duke, all very cool. I am sure you're set up to do this already, but if not, quote ZIP when it opens in about 25 minutes. :)
Very prescient call by Mr. SpiffyPop.
Good call!
Wow David -- maybe its time to switch up your game to pre-earnings bets on 20% pops?!? Well called, Ken
Thanks, everybody.
I don't do these very often. And I don't gain confidence from when they work out. :)
Obviously, this could have gone the other way. At the same time, I guess if I'm putting it up on my CAPS then I'm giving it something like a 65% chance (as opposed to a 50% chance) of being right. This time it was, and more than I would have thought. All that said, even after this pop -- geez -- still way down. :)

Up another 7% today... it just keeps going and going.... :) --DG
I know this may sound a bit strange, but you can feel the tide turning at Zipcar ... not only with the stock price, but with the business itself. There is considerable operating leverage in Zipcar's model and I think investors will see what this company can really do over the next 3-5 years.
Ahhhhh the bullishness of despair!
Stock up 48% today on Avis buyout. This was a huge win. Exiting just here on CAPS. Fool on! --David
