ABAT is a China based maker of li-ion polymer batteries.
This company has been growing at a 50%+ clip since 2004 and have been consistently and increasingly profitable since 2006. The future looks to be no different.
With the addition of two new production buildings just now coming online that doubles their capacity as well as the purchase of a hybrid/electric bike/scooter manufacturer they are set to nearly double their 2008 revenue.
This $200M market cap company has $30M in cash, virtually zero debt, and a $60M backlog.
ABAT should ride the wave of enthusiasm that has been building over electric cars. Though ABAT hasn't announced any ventures or partnerships with a big auto company (it's not their way to hype the company or promise more than they can deliver) it's not out of the question. They've powered buses and garbage trucks and are working with an upstart car company (ZAAP.OB).
However, unlike a lot of other battery companies, ABAT isn't being built on hope for a big jackpot with a car company. It is being built on conservative but aggressive management, controlling costs, cultivating customers and expanding to new markets.

nice short term play

I just put in an order to buy this at 3.75. Based on the stock's recent performance after they made that move to increase their cash holdings, it seems like a good minimum to wait for and it looks like tomorrow has a high probability of reaching that point.
I'm currently majoring in materials science so I know how important the lithium ion battery is to the future of alternative energy. When this stock was at the 4.04 that I started with CAPS I was still feeling that it needed to stabilize after the cash holder.
Finally, I don't have a small cap yet in my portfolio and since I've been watching this one since early July, I feel that I have a pretty good handle on it's price movements. Since they are technically a cyclical business according to my Ameritrade I can understand why investors are fearful at the moment. However, when a cyclical company can post these kind of gains in the down cycles, I see it as a very good equity to hold when the market recovers.
