Aside from being the worlds largest builder of power grids, ASEA, Brown, Boveri (after nearly going bankrupt in the early 2000nds) has since shed it's dinosaur power divisions of nuclear and fossil fuel energy production in favour of wind turbine and solar energy inverters. It still manufactures industrial robots and it also takes part in innovative projects such as the Electric Trolleybus in Geneva which has charging stations at every stop instead of overhead wires.
They are also responsible for some of the most innovative software and hardware solutions for power station and grid monitoring and are sure to continue innovating or simply buying the innovators in the future!

ABB is another great play on a Eurozone recovery. Whether that recovery has begun already is definitely arguable, but whether it will happen is not. The company has made lots of acquisitions in recent years and is doing a good job of positioning itself for long-term growth.

If they really are able to charge busses in 15 seconds, I think this stock is a winner.

Seems like this place has the opportunity for some growth if companies like Ford can continue to capture an audience and improve sales.

If I was to buy this stock it would not be for the dividend since it is an annual dividend and it would be more for the estimated growth.

fool.com expects automation to rise and that is both expected and saddened by me but I hope there to still need some balance to keep them working.

Nearly 90% of ABB's shareholder equity are now intangible assets. Spending 15 Billion to buy nothing in order to avoid paying taxes on your income seems to be a rather infantile approach to business. The only group that benefits from this is management. Unfortunately, ABB shareholders will be stuck with this bill for much longer than any revolving door executive burglars that pay themselves fat bonuses.

I've taken a beating on my European picks so far this year, but I'm undaunted. There are a lot of great companies on the continent, just waiting for a little spark. ABB is one of the best. Great company, bargain price, splendid dividend. ABB can survive the crisis and thrive once the recession has run its course.
