At a loss as to why this has an above average CAPS rating. This company has no chance of outperforming the S&P anytime in the near future that I can see. Maybe after they sell off everything and consolidate a bit they might have a chance........but then again I'm still a rookie at all this so what the heck do I know.

They still haven't made a deal with their creditors and they're losing money hand over foot. They've been having to sell assets at fire sale prices.

It could be they can turn this around. But for the next six months or so things don't look good. And they might go down for the count.

I won't even look at them until they've made a deal with their creditors.

got real issues in last qtr report, but i'm a newbie, so maybe there is good news in the qtr report somewhere:

"The Company remains in default on $2.3 billion of unsecured credit arrangements outstanding as of March 31, 2009. The Company was able to
reduce its outstanding debt by $51 million during the quarter ended March 31, 2009.
“We have continued to work with our lenders to reach a resolution of our defaults,” said John Erickson, Chief Financial Officer..."

Auditors have given a going concern warning. Company is in default on loans, also has filed with SEC for up to 4 reverse stock splits this year. What can I say. ACAS is headed for receivership, and I took a bath in the process.

Going to zero. Given my usual short-term bad timing, it'll probably go to $3.00 before it goes to zilch.

Barton-Cotton Inc. files for bankruptcy. ACAS holds an 83% majority stake in Barton-Cotton Inc.

This is the first of many of ACAS's portfolio companies that will file for BK. Get ready for more.

Although it seems to be a good pick, on the near term it's difficult to see many of the financials outperforming the S&P...

It will be tough for American Capital Strategies to generate returns matching previous years having invested so heavily near the top of the market. Many of it's holdings were bought in last year at market highs. For this pony to run in the black it will need to break records in price. It is going to be a few years before we see that.

Because of situation with financials, Acas won't turn around (my opinon) for approx 1 year. But after that, and with the dividends they pay..watch out!! Maybe best to buy now.
