The "geneology sector"?
The IPO pricing, in my opinion, betrays a skepticism from within the company itself regarding the sustainability of YOY earnings growth. And lo: The public is skeptical as well.
Can earnings be grown when revenues flatten? And for the genealogical fanatic, aren't ACOM's services exhausted in the course of a year's subscription? (ANOTHER HINT: Aren't yearly subscriptions a way of front-loading earnings?) What happens when the subs disappear?
Maybe this company makes a nice, steady income for years to come. And maybe, having nothing else to do with that money (save pay for more content/access to census archives, etc.), maybe they eventually buy back some of these shares, boosting EPS.
Then, THEN perhaps the P/E will be reasonable.
Only if one of Google's search competitors decides this would make a nice addition to an eclectic portfolio (and overpays for the privilege) does this stock outperform the S&P.
But I'm betting we'll be reading ACOM's obituary within the decade.
Yet the price will have gone nowhere.
