Already an essential provider of creative software with a huge moat, Adobe announced today that it will be switching all customers to a subscription model. This is huge - a better business model, and, from my perspective as a consumer, a better experience. Win-win, and while people hate change and may have negative knee-jerk reactions to the new model, they'll come around. It's a better, more integrated suite of products at a better price. Love it. Bodes well for Adobe's future!

I think their change to a subscription-based model is not helping them. Many of their graphics programs traditionally both the small self-employed designer and large corporations would upgrade at different times and not always as each new version came out. I think they've gotten greedy and trying to follow the Microsoft model of being the 800-pound gorilla in the room.

While Creative Suite is still the industry standard, Flash and Shockwave are on life support. All major browsers now support HTML5 which will become the standard in webpage embedded video.
