AIB has one of the most illiquid balance sheet of the world and a too high valuation compared to its sales potential. It is also loss making at least until 2011. It may go bankrupt.
Moreover it is priced as a penny stock worth 1.7 EUR. And its stock price lost about 40% in the last two weeks.

Heading south for a spell. Look at website ise.ie for a better idea of the intrinsic value.

Very overbought, hyped up on good news. Will bleed out over the next month or so.

This bank should be avoided. If it even survives it will be several years before you see any sort of return.

Gone is that juicy dividend. From the 11/5/08 Interim Management Statement, "We have formed an action plan that is designed to
achieve a core tier 1 ratio of at least 7% over time. We are targeting a core tier 1 ratio of around 6% at the end of 2008 and this target assumes a FINAL CASH DIVIDEND WILL NOT BE PAID." (Emphasis mine) 7% over time is also rather nebulous. Move along. Nothing to see here for several years.

No question it is going to sink today, but it should rebound nicely and be a strong pick outside of the next few days. I'd wait a few and then pick it up for a few dollars cheaper.

AIB through its US Allfirst subsidiary has a 22.5% interest in M&T Bank. As M&T's parent, AIB is obligated to capitalize M&T should become financialy stressed. M&T has been adding risky loans to its portfolio and there is exposure to residential construction lending. Recently M&T is seeing analyst downgrades. In the short term I think we see this stock decline as investors factor this into their considerations.
