Insanely low PE for such a strong, profitable company. Sub-prime won't hurt this stock as much as panic already has. This is a great long-term pick.

Just rated the worst insurance company in America in an AAJ report. Consistantly denies claims and screws consumers on a daily basis. Expect profits to dwindle.

I am buying this based on a Jon Markman article that theorizes debt markets will lead increases in the stock prices of individual companies. Allstate is one of the companies that qualified for his screen which required that the company's debt prices had increased at least 50% from their post 2007 lows but that the share prices had recovered less than 50% from these lows. At $24.95, this stock's p/bv ratio is about 1.1, which is less than its historical average. I expect that the stocks book value per share will recover rapidly as credit markets recover. Currently, unrealized losses reduce book value by about $5.00 per share while the company currently maintains unrealized gains of $3.00 per share. Some of these unrealized losses will disappear as credit markets improve. This will increase book value without flowing through earnings.
