+ Watch AMBA
on My Watchlist
I pulled the plug on this one (in addition to Geotherm) too early, also. It has a lot of upside left.
7/11/2014High-definition camera software developer Ambarella is the market leader in wearable sports cameras, dashboard cams, and IP security cameras. Existing markets have huge potential, and new areas such as 4K video offer ample opportunity. Ambarella invests heavily in R&D and has a strong lead on its competitors. - David GardnerCurrently, Ambarella sells chips for cars, cameras (GoPro), and surveillance. Ambarella is looking to make its move into wearables, which is right around the corner. Ambarella also has many different growth opportunities by expanding its technologies into new markets such as drones.
GoPro and getting outside...
with GOpro going IPO will help AMBA who makes video compression chips for their product
I see this as a prospective but out company for google 2-4 years down the road.
Riding the GoPro wave.

Google is acquiring Dropcam who integrates Ambarella's chips for video encoding. This is a huge endorsement in specialized video capture devices. At the same time there is the upcoming GoPro IPO which also integrates Ambarella into their capture devices. An acquisition by google and an IPO are two factors Ambarella's revenues.
They make the stuff that makes GoPro go. No debt, expanding margins and growing sales. Yikes, I am turning into a growth investor!
security is key
Wait until go pro goes public......then we speak
Seems like a great stock pick. I am just concerned why the officers are dumping their shares.
I'm not a GoPro user, but the partnership with Google is promising.
Garmin's entry into the sports camera market indicates a long road ahead in this segment. AMBA's relationship with Go Pro should be a nice foot in the door to an expanding market. Add the security camera segment, and I like this one more and more. Just wrote puts on it...
The smartphone and mobile business are growing fast, as demonstrated by the rise of Apple products/stock and Android's popularity. While big names like Qualcomm may stay ahead, there is still a sizable market for lower-end phones, and smaller name companies like Ambarella can cater there.
If you dig GoPro, you dig AMBA. They power it.
this company gets a lot of good action. Literally think about how how their products play in the hands of commercial shots and other adventures with the product chip in the GoPro camera.
Looks to be creating an inverted Head and Shoulders. Chip stocks getting discounted with Russia, market was due for a correction. IMO I'm not expecting a correction of more than 5% as world governments are still using unconventional monetary policy and Stanley Fischer said the Fed should be more accommodation due to weak data. (the right hand of Yellen)The number of homes in the United States with private security cameras increased by about five million last year, to 15 million homes, according to Parks Associates, a research company. A similar increase is expected this year, said Tom Kerber, Parks’s director of research.Ambarella, which makes video chips for both Dropcam and GoPro, recently said it was working with Google on cameras with facial recogition advanced capabilities. Also, on their IP Security cameras which are mostly 4k ultra high resolution in less than two Watts, electronic image stabilization (EIS) and Advanced 3D noise reduction with de-ghosting to enhance low-light performance. The majority of broadcast transmission companies like direct tv, rogers, bell haven't upgraded to the ultraHD 4k resolution so this industry is still up for grabs and creates a real value for AMBA, as Amazon and netflix said they will be recording all their shows in ultra HD 4k it will naturally lead the pack to the transformation. AMBA is said to be releasing more product releases i.e. video chips this year to compete on the higher end as well as the lower end. The insider sales isn't too worrisome this year as they have been minimal due to the insiders total holdings. Their sitting on a hundred million in cash and expanding stockholder equity each quarter for consecutive quartersThey just unveiled a new product this year for the automobile which i think is going to take off in high density areas in Asia and around the world which are gaining popularity. The new MotorVu™ 360 reference design features four full 1080p30 HD camera modules that can be embedded at the front, rear and side mirrors of the vehicle, providing 360° surround view for driving or parking assistance as well as simultaneous four-channel “black box” recording of road incidents. If drivers don't like it they can click erase to not show documentation. The latest Strategy Analytics Automotive Electronics Service (AES) report "Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Demand Forecast 2007 to 2020" predicts that camera volumes will grow at over 28 percent per year over the period 2013 to 2018, and exceed 100 million units by 2020
