While they have some good products their strategy does not seem to be optimal, as they are trying to simplify the use of their drugs to the extend of excluding some patients. The partnership to market their drugs in pen form also seems fragile, but is a key component of their strategy so far.

Based on the statements made by the President of the company during the bio-tech conference conference in San Francisco, the FDA advised the company that they could use the data base on the one million patients already on Byetta, to meet the criteria on cardio vascular disease. They also added that they could use data from their current studies to show comparability of the drug being produced in their new Ohio facility to the drug that came from Alkerme plant. Overreaction to the pancreatitis deaths (6). Diabetes space was hammered starting with Exubera withdrawal and other insulin or ODA's (perceived) safety problems. When this passes, the diabetes space will be more fairly valued. A huge growing epidemic that is poorly served by existing treatments.

Blue chip company has been trashed on negative news but just had good clinical news with Byetta...possible turn around?

This stock is being unfairly punished by headlines that are misleading. The headlines imply Byetta causes pancreatitis. Yet in fact, as yet there is no direct link between the two; one of the very sick people who died had been off the drug for months; and, so far, it looks like Type II diabetics taking Byetta get pancreatitis at a lower rate than Type II diabetics NOT taking the drug. Long term prognosis on Byetta - sans the sensationalist headlines - looks good, and I'll probably end up taking it myself eventually.

Promising results for Byetta offer the prospect of a better drug for diabetes. A potential blockbuster at a knockdown price. Buy!
