Taking advantage of a buying oportunity.

it's like paying 90,000 for a lemonade stand earning 30 bucks a day

Easy money to be made here will go down for near future.....

Amazon is being ripped because it is going in a war against Apple. Without Steve Jobs, I think Amazon has a chance in this war and is well prepared for it. Its Kindle is priced to perform well.

Amazon is getting hammered by State and Local Taxing audits - once one establishes that Amazon has nexus....the tax assessments, penalty, and interest will come rolling in!

From the company that saved the independent book-seller a decade ago, to THE source on the web for most anything today. A decade from now Amazon will generate more sales than Wal-Mart. I know that's a bold statement, but think about this:
The iPod, and the massive revenues that it began drawing through iTunes, and now the iPhone, iPad, App store- That "sticky" revenue stream that has made AAPL one of greatest investment stories of it's generation?
The Kindle Fire could very well have that same sort of effect for AMZN, and on a larger scale than one may think! And don't think that Amazon is gonna stop with the Fire. There will be more.
And Prime is adding the "membership status" similar to Costco. Sound crazy? $79 for cheap shipping for a year just made a lot of purchases through Amazon a lot cheaper! Get on board. You'll be glad you did!

Great company but P/E is wacky.

Offering cloud services and new models of kindles!

With the new Kindle Fire, amazon will take a good chunk of market share from apple.

AMZN is far too overpriced. It earns money but it cannot justify such a high PE ratio.

Because Im a fool!

How much I like amazon, i don;t like it as an investment at the moment. with a P/E of over 100 and with the US economy still in decline the question will remain if it will live up to all its expectations. Stock is overpriced at the moment and we just need to wait for everyone's honeymoon with this stock to end. After that it will be a very interesting stock.

The company's rapid expansion is going to take these guys to the top of the retail industry at the expense of the existing brick and mortars. Costco makes about 75% of their profits from their membership fees, and they have a 90% renewal rate, and look, now these guys have Amazon Prime! Tablets and cloud tech are also a higher margin business than retail, and these guys seem to get everything they do just right.

Good entry point. Even is Kindle is a loss leader, content will be very profitable for Amazon

P/E valuations of this magnitude are rarely predictive of long-term outperformance. While I couldn't agree more that Amazon is a wonderfully unique and innovative company with growing dominance, it must be admitted that every publicly traded company, no matter how well-run or well-positioned it may be, can become easily overvalued by blind optimism.
Let's not forget that online retail isn't exactly an area known for its barriers to entry. Admittedly, Amazon is well-exposed to less competitive areas of business like the tablet market (even though this is quickly becoming more competitive), and has benefited greatly from the "long tail" marketing of lower volume products and its algorithm for product recommendations on the site. Still, the stock price to me implies that AMZN investors think they have a crystal ball guaranteeing violently explosive growth for years to come, which as an investor is always a dangerous and provincial mindset to have.

I find that this one-stop shop for everything usually is easier (love prime 2-day shipping!), and cheaper than a normal store. They also have a lot of room to grow their streaming and other content as the Kindle Fire goes on sale. It will be interesting to see how Amazon profits from Netflix's recent bad decisions.

I've been wrong about this company for 15 years because for 15 years I have been looking at valuation.
What this company has is Jeff Bezos, who has spearheaded a host of disruptive technologies. He keeps doing it. Amazon is how I shop now, and I think traditional retail valuation metrics may not capture the magnitude of that statement.

I love my 3rd gen Kindle and today Amazon announced 4 new one's. Their Android tablet, the Fire, is at a great price point to compete with the iPad, the Touch is a fantastic idea (e-Ink + touch screen), and the cheap $79 version seems sure to saturate the market and increase Kindle book sales.
Their books are consistently cheaper than brick & mortar stores, and other products like games are always competitive.
Amazon is a leading Cloud provider, with EC2, S3, and other services, so they have multiple ways to make money.
I'm not sure if their subscription-based Prime service will take off, but it's something else Amazon has that could pay off in the long run for regular income.
Recs
Amazon's Kindle Fire will rule the day and its all time high of $244 will soon be a support price instead of a ceiling.
