It's taken a good bit of looking but I finally found a website that has followed this company. There just isn't a lot of press about them out there. see

According to this website American National has been consistently growing earnings over the past several years. They have a very conservative management. Virtually no debt D:E = 0.035. They are an insurer with a great credit rating and are ranked 9th in JD Power's survey of car insurance companies. This company has all the trappings of what a good insurance company should look like. They also pay a regularly increasing dividend. Payout ratio is holding steady at 30%.
On the downside the original founding family still controls a majority of the stock. They don't seem to be interested in selling the company, conducting share repurchases or adding more debt to the balance sheet to finance an expansion.
I'm looking for this company to show steady growth for several years.
