Anworth Mortgage Asset Corp (ANH)
The Company is in the business of investing primarily in United States agency and other highly rated single-family adjustable-rate and fixed-rate mortgage-backed securities, or MBS, and residential mortgage loans.

This is another AMBS investor that is killing it with the currently steeply inclined yield curve. I just can't see that changing any time soon. Short-term rates are anchored at next to nothing until the economy improves, making AMBS investing companies a great hedge until conditions get better. The fact that congress is looking at making changes to Fannie and Freddie may be making people nervous about the model of companies that invest in their paper. I'm not too worried. All the suggestions for change made by the recent GAO report, which is what congress is following, would produce gradual changes, if any. My guess is that they will tweak the agencies' model to make them more stable, but will not produce radical change. That would be too risky for lenders and the recovery. Regardless, there will continue to be a secondary market for mortgages, government-backed or not, and the companies that supply it with capital, like ANH, will continue to profit as long as the yield curve remains favorable, keeping their spreads intact. That, to me, is THE thing to keep an eye on!

TradeMonster A+ rating; 16% dividend; mortgage bus. will be good as housing market recovers.

Interest rates aren't going up and people are going to continue to need refinancing dollars for the next 3 years as the last of the ARMs expire. In the near term this will stay strong for all the reasons the single-family home market will stay weak.

Mortgage businesses will swell back up as the economy rebounds. Will return nice dividends in the meantime.

Picking this one up off the trash heap...
Subprime and Credit crises have pretty much bottomed out. Yes, we're still in a prolonged housing slump and a Recession. However, Anworth is well positioned to take advantage of government intervention, low interest rates, a push to refinance, and - eventually - underwrite a significant portion of that massive existing home inventory that has been piling up over the past 18 months.

The credit crises and morgage meltdown in the U.S. isn't going anywhere this summer and is likely to only get worse. If Bear Sterns couldn't survive what hope is their for the rest of the financial sector. Yes, the financial sector seems to be jumping back and key reversals seem to be lifting bullish investors, but this ray of hope will end once investors understand how bad this looming recession is going to be. Even the hopeful and growing few in the financial sector are going to suffer from the troubles of the many.

ANH is trading at a 62% discount to its intrinsic value based on earnings. It has a P/E = 6.35 and a PEG = 0.63 making it an attractive stock based on value.
Due to the recent mortgage crisis, this stock got hammered unfairly. It is a strong company with a very nice dividend. It has been completely oversold, and I plan on it rebounding quite nicely.
