ARNA has a too high valuation compared to its sales potential. It is also one of the most loss making companies at least until 2011.
Moreover its stock price touched a low below 2.5 in April 2009.

Obesity drug sector about to catch fire. Room for several winners, just as there was with cholesterol drugs (statins).

Their new weight loss drug is in trial stage and is apparently effective. We know how crazy people are about losing weight.

Once it hits market, ARNA's obesity drug is going to be considered 'safer' than its 2 key competitors, despite the fact that it doesn't produce the same results. OREX and VVUS have already seen huge valuation improvement while ARNA has not- why?

Fewer side effects/no generic components/less aggressive results = safe prescription for a doctor treating a self-conscious fat guy.

I have a sneaking suspicion that these obesity drug companies (especially the well managed ones) are going to go absolutely crazy if the health insurance reform goes through.

Especially after they outlaw being over-weight.

ARNA has certainly had it's share of ups and downs, but as the market swings towards losing weight this trend should level out and remain with an incline greater than that of the S&P

Results from its second phase III trial of Arena's obesity drug should be positive, as was the first trial.

Lorcaserin will pass FDA approval for it's safety profile and will be combined with phentermine later to produce Lorphen. The safe version of fen phen. The market will be huge.

As almost everyone knows we have a growing obesity problem in the US. This company is in late-stage trials of a new weight loss drug called Lorcaserin. Arena has been in a tailspin since trials of the drug failed to meet FDA benchmarks for effectiveness, Bio tech companies live or die based on clinical trials. Though the news is not as dire as the stock price would indicate. The FDA is still expected to pass the drug, because it has low side effects and can help people loose significant amounts of weight over time. To quote the recent article,"Analysts, overall, agree that the drug is poised for FDA approval." I think that this stock will recover in the long run, once people stop panicking...
