There are plenty of companies that enjoy Apple's "Halo Effect." ATML is just such a company too. They makes chips used in touch technology on phones and tablets. They're overlooked and undervalued, with a sub 10 P/E. But that's not even the most important part of my thesis. What's the next BIG thing from Apple likely to be? Apple TV of course, reiterated and mainstreamed into millions of homes. Atmel is poised to work with Apple and make chips for Apple TV's. The market is starting to catch on, with the stock up 4-5% on a down day. Fortunately, it's still very early in the game, and now is a great time to cash in on a definite Apple-blessed stock.

King of the touch-screen controller, also doing well and growing margins in the microcontroller business, now they seem to have something that works they have a good possibility of future growth into other ancillary markets and presuming they can continue with their model that is currently working would seem to be well positioned.

There is a whole generation of programmers learning and hacking on these chips. Wait till they all start companies and mass produce using AVRs. I wish I would have been smart and bought when it was a $3 stock.

Atmel is a good play on the Smartphone and Tablet explosion that is happening now and for next 5 years plus.
Atmel is a leader in touchscreen which is needed in Smartphones and Tablets. They have ARM based microcontrollers and System on Chips (SOC).
Recent product announcement was first 32 bit MCU with built in Touchscreen.
In addition, Atmel does a good amount of business in Asia 50% (currently lists 31% Europe, 19% Americas). I like the heavy exposure in ASIA for the huge growth potential in computer products Atmel could have their chips in.
There have been recent reports Atmel will be moving from NVM (Non Volatile Mem.) 24%, RF/Auto 12%, ASICs: 24%, MCU: 40% to all MCU. I think this is a good move and will help Atmel take advantage of Smartphone and Tablet and other touchscreen embedded products.
