All the good news about Modern Warfare 2 is already in the price (and despite this thumbs-down, I can't wait to play it), DJ Hero is apparently selling very poorly, and the mngt have been dumping stock again. I can't see what can take this stock higher from here.

Call of Duty & Guitar Hero will do okay this xmas season. I see a short term profit opportunity thru the xmas season then a drop to new lows during 1st & 2nd Qtr 2010. Depending on the economy and any new games releases, it could then be another buying opportunity on the lows for the 2010 xmas season.

As a gamer, I love Blizzard. As an investor, I hate it. They never do anything to sustain or build momentum. They do not meet release deadlines. Of course, I'm referring to only Blizzard here, but Blizzard is the promising part of this company. Blizzard can not meet a deadline. They cancel games and never admit to it- Starcraft Ghost comes to mine. There release dates are worthless- they can say 2010, but the game will really come out 3 years later. The company is way too unpredictable to be worth the hassle. If their management could get things under control I would be all over this, but as it stands ATVI will never reach its potential because they completely lack transparency.

At one point it was a great idea, but every one figured that out and bought it. now the p/e is way to high. its trailed the market for a long time.I had my cousin buy it in his account early this year. his whole accounts up 135%.this is the worst of his whole account and we decided to sell it.I didnt know better back then. ive learned alot fast.there are better buys

Careful. This is a great company with great potential. There has been a delay in the new starcraft II game, however leaving their 2009 schedule very very light. they're most like going to report disappointing earnings for 2009. In 2010 however, look for this to really take off, if they manage to release the version of starcraft, plus the new version of diablo.

I'm not a gamer anymore but I do follow the industry a bit. I think the game market is saturated right now and Activision is a bit overbought. This is a steal at any point in the single digits, and if Diablo 3 comes out in late 09/early 2010, it will fly. Right now it's treading water in a dicey water.

Very weak cash flow from operations. Currently trading at a forward P/E of 32. I don't think they'll see much growth in 2009 and likewise, their earnings will disappoint for at least six quarters until consumer spending recovers.

Several mishaps over Activision Blizzard's new game Wrath of the Lich King have led it's customers to lose confidence in a game that has several bugs and glitches. As a result several of it's customers have decided to unsubscribe due to poor Quality Assurance testing at Blizzard and more than 3 months of Beta Testing... despite all of that the game still has bugs and several latency issues.

On top of that, the company can do nothing right the first time except apologize over and over again.

There are better games out there with higher quality and bug-free that customers really should look after and what Blizzard needs to understand is that you can't "Re-invent" the wheel and as more and more expansions are released players have to decide if they want to get married or divorced.

With that there is a saying that "Nothing lasts forever" and it is very true with this company who is putting all of their bets on 3 franchises instead of making completely new ones in an effort to be more diverse. In that sense the company is lacking innovation compared to companies like Apple who keep making great brand new products at a much faster rate.

sure warcraft brings in money, but they paid for that greatly. The Music game phenom is going to go the same way that DDR did.

I think this stock still has a ways to go down. Great company and good product line up, but sales are down this year and it will decline severely into next quarter. I'm waiting to invest in them next year.

Dont expect any major thing major in ATVI as they are a lowpriced semi-small company. The company is primarily a software development one in the entertainment industry. Unless they turn out numerous titles in a short period of time or titles that become relatively instant big hits that completely dominate the industry they will not do to much better. It can be expected that the share prices will inflate during/after title releases and holiday seasons so plan in account for that. My source:

Currently ATVI $16.38 0.26 (1.61%)

9/26/2008 4:00 PM

Was $28.31 as of 1/7/2008.

(Traded in all at that, which was by no mistake: a very good idea.)

One by one, video game publishers have been missing analysts estimates . And who has the highest estimate to reach ? You guessed it.

All their franchises are dead. Everyone buying this stock is just doing so on hype for the video game industry in general.

Tony Hawk stopped being cool a while ago, guys. Sorry. Watch sales slow.

Going short now that the Vivendi deal is coming through.

This merger will happen at the height of Vivendi's most popular game, World of Warcraft.

By staggering the release of WOW and its expansion packs in different areas in the world, Vivendi had created an illusion that the game was growing bigger and bigger. For example, WOW came out more than 6 months later in China than in the U.S.. As a result, as US and Europe growth was slowing down, China growth kicked in. The same thing happened with the expansion pack.

if you look closely at the numbers, Chinese average concurrent user numbers were DECLINING prior to the release of the Burning Crusade. However, the release of this expansion pack juiced the numbers again.

However, in the videogame industry, each subsequent expansion pack has a diminishing effect on the popularity of the game. This is sort of like the diminishing effect of a drug. The new expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King, is not due out for a while. And that release will have a much smaller impact on user numbers than the Burning Crusade.

There are no more big new markets for WOW to penetrate. The juice from the first expansion pack is just about spent. It's all downhill from here.

The MMORPG market is becoming ever more competitive. Fundamentally, there isn't much barriers to entry, although switching costs can be high, depending on your time investment, and how many of your friends play the game. However, when a game starts to decline, it declines very quickly (network effect erosion). I believe this is what will happen to WOW, a year from now.

These types of games have massive operating leverage, as each incremental user is almost pure profit. Now, as this effect reverses itself, margins are going to crap.
