Turn around expected in the offshore drillers within 2-3 years. This is one of the best in the space and should provide outsized returns for the patient.

Detailed Analysis   Guru Score: 86%   Find Other Stocks that Pass This Guru

SECTOR: [PASS]

ATW is neither a technology nor financial Company, and therefore this methodology is applicable.

SALES: [PASS]

The investor must select companies of "adequate size". This includes companies with annual sales greater than $340 million. ATW's sales of $1,123.2 million, based on trailing 12 month sales, pass this test.

CURRENT RATIO: [PASS]

The current ratio must be greater than or equal to 2. Companies that meet this criterion are typically financially secure and defensive. ATW's current ratio of 3.15 passes the test.

LONG-TERM DEBT IN RELATION TO NET CURRENT ASSETS: [FAIL]

For industrial companies, long-term debt must not exceed net current assets (current assets minus current liabilities). Companies that do not meet this criterion lack the financial stability that this methodology likes to see. The long-term debt for ATW is $1,512.7 million, while the net current assets are $312.2 million. ATW fails this test.

LONG-TERM EPS GROWTH: [PASS]

Companies must increase their EPS by at least 30% over a ten-year period and EPS must not have been negative for any year within the last 5 years. Companies with this type of growth tend to be financially secure and have proven themselves over time. ATW's EPS growth over that period of 4,024.2% passes the EPS growth test.

P/E RATIO: [PASS]

The Price/Earnings (P/E) ratio, based on the greater of the current PE or the PE using average earnings over the last 3 fiscal years, must be "moderate", which this methodology states is not greater than 15. Stocks with moderate P/Es are more defensive by nature. ATW's P/E of 11.50 (using the 3 year PE) passes this test.

PRICE/BOOK RATIO: [PASS]

The Price/Book ratio must also be reasonable. That is, the Price/Book multiplied by P/E cannot be greater than 22. ATW's Price/Book ratio is 1.41, while the P/E is 11.50. ATW passes the Price/Book test.

Note to self: ATW, SDRL and NOV are my 3 largest holdings in MRLP as of 4/4/14 (while I plan to hold these companies long term, as an FYI I could sell them at any time; however, I wanted to be sure to note what I was thinking at this time).

PE on ATW and SDRL are low, plus I think that the temporary pressure on day rates is going to be a short-lived phenomenon that has already been priced into these stocks.

I think the market is discounting the drillers right now due to a perceived oversupply of drilling rigs coming. Pete Miller at NOV thinks that the oversupply argument is not true - I'll defer to his judgement and if he is right ATW will benefit. Also, a younger, newer fleet from ATW should continue to do better even in a slowdown period. Long term, I think investors will win with ATW.

its back at a low valuation and prospects are good for their high end rigs (despite falling day rates on low end rigs). Look at how nicely stock holder equity grows over the years, that's what i like despite FCF being negative for the next few years.

I like ATW but there will be falling oil prices in 2014 which will stop some marginal projects. Hopefully by 2015...

P/E for current year is 6.12 currently trading at below 10 P/E.
Next year earnings estimates are at 8.06. Even if the earnings fall short,
This stock could easily be at 75 by the end of 2014

In a world where energy needs a expanding and new oil reserves are exceedingly difficult to find $ATW should easily be able to achieve CAGR at nearly 20%. The stock is also selling in the bottom third of its five year valuation range based on Price to Book so it is positioned for a nice move north from this point.
