AVAV AeroVironment, Inc.
Small-scale UAVs (no competitors) (defense, research, firefighters, and surveillance tasks)
Fast-Charging Battery Technology (cars, golf carts, forklifts, etc.)
Battery & Fuel Cell Management & Testing System (Commercial Bus system, trains)
Trends: Its UAV is following the trend to use UAVs in warfare, and for border security & surveillance
Trends: Its Fast Charging Battery Technology is following the trend to get off of oil and on the grid
MOAT: In its Mini UAV segment it has no direct competitors and an extensive product line that seems hard to beat
- Their Mini UAV's are considered indispensable in Iraq and Afghanistan for surveillance.
- Good growth prospect in that other countries (like UK, Israel, etc.) might start buying them up
- Relatively cheaper than Global Hawk, but mainly used for surveillance (does have limited firepower).
- Revenue: has increased 77% between between April 2006 and April 2007
- FCF in Q4 2007 is $12 million
- FCF in Q3 2007 is $11 million (they were not profitable for 2 quarters before this, but were profitable with FCF in Q4 2006 with $9 million)
- Bottom Line: Company has great potential ahead of it.............should sales of their UAV's take off. It seems highly dependent upon military sales for its profitability, judging by its two down quarters in 2007 when it did not receive large orders for its UAV's We cannot expect its Fast Electrical Charge System Technology (with Civilian customers) to sustain it during down-periods where UAVs are not ordered; at least not yet. Could get bought out by larger players such as Northrup Grumman, but then again it might not. You can expect, Australia, and the UK (for Afghanistan) to become long term customers as well. Sales to other non-US-ally countries are unthinkable, so don't expect global growth from this stock as compared to other 'non-protected' technologies.

We are in a war with Iran in Iraq and Afganistan. It will only be time before Iran or the U.S. will start this big time in my humble opinion. I just want to be prepared.

AVAV makes small "troop transportable" UAVs and they also make quick charging stations for electrically powered automobiles. If electric cars take off, look for the local battery charging station using AVAV's technology.

A manufacturer of small UAVs this company has limitless potential. Their unmanned systems have the potential to be used by the three letter agencies, the military, and most importantly the Department of Homeland Defense. Also, a profitable company as soon as it comes public. Finally, it trades at a multiple similar to other defense contractors (see RTN).

This IPO manufactures UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) for the Army. I saw them in action in Iraq last summer. Damn good tool and saved my life. Second, AVAV also manufactures environment-friendly power generation equipment which I see a greatly increased demand for in the upcoming 2-5 years and the business diversity will keep the cash coming in once the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan come to an end. I buy more everytime it goes on sale...

Innovative company with strong R&D function. While I don't think we will be at war forever, the products they create have a lot of upside in the "war against terror" which will require their type of products to fight effectively. Their battery technology could be huge as alternative energy investments increase and their involvement with supply chain process improvement (wharehouse forklift charging method) shows this company can grow in many different directions.

UA army awarded to AVAV huge amount of money to build predators.
AVAV for Australia held on the oean demonstration of predator or like demonstration. Australia was impressed!
Perhaps future is floating unmanned arsenal of missles, rockets and the predator!
Begining of the year US budget has not allocated all the 2007 money. Late in year there is very little money left to allocate.

I think this one has some great potential - unmanned drones, and other military apps. Nice growth and a reasonable valuation.
