Not a good time for this sector, way too many ppl still lost or losing jobs that won't buy homes.

Looks like we have reached a top here, down we go boys and girls!

On a serious note, this is one of the least attactive homebuilders out there.

AVTR owns a lot of junky land in FL that I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. However, AVTR could go private if its stock price drops in the low teens or below. For now it should pull back hard. I wouldn't short it due to the possibility of being taken private.

Another example of forced liquidations! $20 range for this company at market is an understatment of true value. The combinded market with enterprice value is less than the companies liquidation value. They own over 17,000 acres of diversified land in FL. This is buildable for commerical and non-commerical use (schools, residential, entertainment, parks, manufacturing etc...) The land alone is worth more than the balance sheet. Factor in potential lease-hold income - etc... Yes one might argue well the land is somewhat unoccupied... Well take a long look at Florida there is no land left nearly this size the only other large amount of acreage belongs to The St. Joe.

I am shamelessly following our resident builders expert floridabuilder on this one. See his blog (http://caps.fool.com/Blogs/ViewPost.aspx?bpid=21639&t=01000603789045326844). I am putting my thumbs down on all his "Fat, dumb and happy" (LEN, PHM, DHI, AVTR), "Special situation crap" (SPF, HOV, BHS) and "Worst in show" (WCI, DHOM, CHCI, LEV, OHB, TOA, and BZH) stocks for as far as they meet the CAPS eligibility requirements.

Man did these guys just pick a crapola time to come to market. SoCal and Florida are just horrid horrid housing markets right now. Housing closes fell dramatically in their most recent quarter, falling 51%. Earnings dropped 81% to just 55 cents a share and they made it seem very clear that they expect these conditions to persist. The whole housing market is terrible right now which we already know, but how in the hell is this still being valued above $50 I'll never know! Technically a trainwreck.

Avatar holds too much land in few locations and this is not a market to do that.

Seems to be a well run company. I believe the market will drop in the near future, AVTR included, but they will continue their success in the long term.

Going to get written down large after its next earning announcement. The P/E looks attractive if you believe the earnings numbers, I for one do not.
