Abraxas Petroleum has some loyal followings.

I would point your attention to some bantering between Jed71 and Teacherman1 here:
http://caps.fool.com/Pitch/AXAS/7510056/i-guess-no-one-in-the-down-thu.aspx

Good dialogue is getting hard to find on CAPS. Teacherman1 has earned my respect over the years and taken me to school more than once.

The dialogue was several months ago and so far Teacherman1 is 'winning', but I don't know if his opinion has changed as the oil patch continues to wilt. Jed71 is patient in his calls.

Teacherman follows his picks much more closely than most of us, usually with real life investment, and averaging in or taking a loss as conditions warrant, restarting his CAPS pick to reflect his real life calls with no consideration for the scoring here. This is what makes his advice when you do cross into some of his pick so valuable to consider.

At this point, with the recent run-up, while would normally leave Teachman picks alone if I disagreed, I'm going to punt on Jed's side. The good side, such as management is going to get out weighed soon. There are no producers of this size who should be valued above book value, as book is not a realistic figure for assets.

While the revolver may looks sufficient A/P is already up to $32M and while the debt may be revolver, it's pushing higher each quarter.

No company likes to do cost cutting at the personnel level...good management or not. The 123 or so employees is a lot of overhead that can't be covered at this production level, even with exceptionally low production costs in their assets.

Target 20-30 or more.

One of the few small Oil drillers prepared for the fall in oil prices, through less debt and hedges.

I guess no one in the down thumb crew has found this one yet. Which is most likely why it remains a 3 star stock.

I opened the recent 10-Q, peeked at the balance sheet and noticed there is no cash remaining in this firm. Maybe they have received some sort of recent funding, but if they have, I surely didn't notice it. Regardless if they have gotten soem emergency cash, their revenue has also declined severely, as with all the other gas and oil firms. With Saudi Arabia and OPEC deciding not to lower production quotas, I think this spells disaster for many of these small drillers. This one has a particularly weak balance sheet, and as I mentioned in the past, those with limited funding options and a wrecked balance sheet most likely won't survive. I won't take a chance on a real life short, but this one looks to be as easy a red thumb as it comes.

Insiders have been buying up tons of shares this year at higher prices than today's $2.75.

AXAS has paid down debt, refocused on Eagle Ford and Baaken and on oil, and is poised to grow with their current land and bolt-on acreage to be purchased.. Divesting of non-core assets has been a boon to AXAS and this will continue. Selling Canada land holdings (when that happens) will negate their small debt load and allow for significant capex.
AXAS is making all the right moves.

The company CEO is making all the right moves, in 2013 he successfully turned the company around by reducing debt and improving production. The stock is up 70%, and I think it has a lot higher to go.

Set up for Buy Out from larger firms. Eagle Ford and others drilling areas are on fire and red hot. Price will go up when two compete to buy strong managed Abraxas. LNG is the next big Energy and AXAS is flush.

The stock looks cheap and likely to continue rebounding. Analysts expect earnings to grow nearly six-fold between 2012 and 2013, and that growth could continue as new wells come on line in the near future. Some analysts have price targets for Abraxas shares at about $5, which could provide investors with a double, based on current prices.

Going debt free with their upcoming asset sell in the eagleford will make AXAS debt free.

Couple that with owning their own drilling rig in the Bakken and the share price should double easily.

i believe AXAS is up to speed in horizontal drilling technology and a likely strong consumer of gas fracking services in their bakken play.
