Here I am jumping in at a near 52-week high. Bad timing, great stock. My pitch is an oversimplified one: With one foot firmly planted in a stable economy in the West and a second foot stepping into a growing economy in the East, BASF will continue to grow. Germany is a country split with Western and Eastern European cultures. Although this makes for certain difficulties, Germans are in a unique postion to understand and capitalize where the West meets East.
Of course, it never hurts that BASF looks great on paper.

Solid, simply solid

Really the largest global more or less pure Chemicals company left. For sure the last of the 3 big ones in Germany. The others splintered and/or gone Pharma. Which now gives them great scale and access to the best Chemistry talent out of German (and other) Universities.

German chemicals, plastics, oil & gas, petroleum company. Solid financials: 7% profit margin, 19% ROE, 9.9 trailing PE, 2.9% div yield (same as 5 yr avg). Doesn't look like a value play, but I think that Germany is just about finished integrating economically and is poised to benefit from eastern bloc growth. This company plays right into that with its products and location. I feel its growth potential is under-valued and the market will eventually realize it.
