Blockbuster, Inc. (BBI)
The Company is a global provider of in-home rental and retail movie and game entertainment, with over 8,000 stores in the United States, its territories and 22 other countries.

Negative sales growth over the past 4 years. Although Blockbuster has the same mail rental system as Nexflix, they are not as good at it. Blockbusters plans are more expensive and anytime I go into a store, no matter what night of the week it is, it is close to empty.

Long term bankruptcy candidate. Can't compete with Netflix, which itself can't compete with piracy.

This Company is clueless. They alienate their customer base,. sending them to the arms of Netflix, Video On Demand, and Redbox.
Don't waste your money or time with this busted company. Keyes is too little too late.

The brand may stay, but they need to dump their current paradigm. I can see the company lasting but it will be years before they turn it around. I can also see someone buying them out.

Blockbuster's time has come and gone. With the digital age directly upon us, gone are the days of renting videos from Brick and Morter stores. They have yet to take even a medium bite out of Netflix and I doubt they ever will. Say goodbye to blockbuster and say hello to video on demand via your cable company, set top boxes from companies like Tivo and Apple, or stream them directly from the web.

Bye bye, physical DVD rentals! Hello online rental downloads!
What's that? Oh, Blockbuster doesn't have online downloads? Uh oh.....

I think that this company is going to flounder for a while, but Keyes should turn it around.

I went to BB to get an older movie I really wanted to see that night. The website said they had it, but when I got there, they didn't. The store looked like as messy as a frickin' K-Mart. There were all these $0.99 stickers and signs with crap about 5 days. Then there were 3-4 employees who were clueless as to how to efficiently manage customers. Just seems like a bad model now.

Bye bye Blockbuster. The unfortunate demise of Blockbuster is and has been underway since we first heard of Netflix. The large and cumbersome box store failed to adapt quickly enough to growing technology and in the process lost a huge opportunity to grab an eager market. While it's P/E may seem intriguing, it is only a matter of time before Blockbuster falls behind even further with its failure to capatilize on an even fresher market ... VOD.

I went in a blockbuster for the first time in 3 years yesterday. They charged me $4.50 for a DVD rental. This in the age of $1 Redbox, increased library DVD collections, and Netflix. They have NO chance of lasting more than 5 years. They have belatedly entered the mail DVD business, even as it is slowly dwindling and Netflix is making a push to corner the future DVD-over-the-internet market before Blockbuster even realizes its the future of the business.

Obsolete business.

Undeerperform until bankrupt.
Buying Circuit City...better lving through chemistry, dude!

I am having a hard time seeing why they would want to purchase Circuit City.

There is no hope for Blockbuster unless they make a rapid change to their business. Even changes may be a day late and a dollar short.

Crappy internal management practices and too heavily committed to a brick & mortar storefront. They are in trouble unless they figure out how to deal with Internet dowlioads.

Blockbuster is done. Stiff competition is coming from all directions.
First, I expect Netflix and other newer and cheaper companies like them to continue to eat up Blockbuster's market share.
Second, I expect digital downloads to be especially damaging to Blockbuster. This comes in the form of PPV iN DEMAND, Xbox Live, and various websites.
Finally, my personal observation is that if you absolutely have to get a rental from a B & M store, then customers won't go to a big corporate machine. I feel they're more likely to go to the mom and pop rental stores.

Stick a fork in them, Blockbuster is done. Included in their new ideas for revamping the store:
A soda fountain and espresso bar. Seriously!? You could always get sodas and popcorn at Blockbuster. Number of times I've purchased anything but a movie rental: 0
Opening at 6AM. No, noone wants to browse through the movie aisle when they are half asleep. Get real.
Free Wi-Fi and a demo of Rockband: Yeah, because I often bring my laptop to Blockbuster at 6AM to get my coffee and check my e-mail.
Their ideas are ridiculous. Unless they completely change their business, they will be gone. There is too much competition out there. Most of the movies that people are likely to rent are available on demand through cable or satellite for cheaper, and if you are looking for a certain movie or game, Netflix and Gamefly can take care of that. If you don't know what you want, the employees at blockbuster don't know Citizen Kane from Gigli.
Their All Access idea is great for consumers, but there's not a lot of money to be made there. I just think that they are out of ideas and need to go back to the drawing board.

No chance

How can a company about to go bankrupt try to buy another nearly bankrupt company that has a larger market cap? Read in the paper about their plans to have movie rentals in CC and just doesn't seem logical to me.
